Zombies Invade College Campuses

We always knew it would happen. We were warned but we didn’t pay attention and now it’s too late, the worst is here. It has all come down to this, one epic battle of humans versus zombies and it’s invading college campuses everywhere.

If you happen to walk onto any random college campus and get shot with a Nerf gun out of nowhere you will know why. They are simply defending the last survivors of humanity and it is all part of the fun. The game is called and Humans vs. Zombies (HVZ) and it is the next big thing. How big? As of last look at the official website the game is being played internationally on 6 continents (Antarctica is too cold for zombies) and as far away as places like Australia, Denmark and Namibia.

This game has become popular with men and women and transcends all cultural barriers. Everyone bands together. It is people from all backgrounds; anyone who is left alive. Here is one example of how big this has become.  Last year Texas Tech and Texas State hosted their own games that boasted more the 500 hundred students each. Some games can even last over a week.

It works like a big game of tag. A zombie will try to bite a human by physically touching them. If a human is tagged they also get the plague virus and become a zombie. They then try to spread the virus by tagging more humans.  Humans are armed with Nerf guns and try to defend themselves by shooting zombies. A zombie who has been shot has to stop for 15 minutes and can’t bite anyone during that time.

The game has a set of official rules that everyone must play by or the game won’t work. All humans start with a bandana that they wear on their arms. The game starts with one infected “origin” zombie who must spread the disease by biting (tagging) them. When a human becomes a zombie they then tie the bandana around their head. The game starts a little slow for the zombies but once their numbers build it quickly turns in their favor as the humans make a last stand.

Nerf has literally sold hundreds, if not thousands, of guns because of this game. In fact, they have even released a special edition HVZ 18 round drum, zombie capping death gun. Of course students will always find a way to take things to the extreme and many have starting modifying their guns by removing the governors and linking two together. It might even be safer to attend an online university.

The only real question is: where was this when I was in school and is it too late for me to play? Then again, if this was around when I was in college, I probably would have never graduated.

Aiden Jefferson is a zombie who un-lives, un-breathes and writes in the secluded sewers of New York. He mainly writes about zombies, things that go thump in the night and pop culture. He actually did graduate from college.  Trident University is one example of an online school you can safely attend.
